Talk:Torque/Script/Tutorials/Using Basic AI Commands
From TDN
Question:
Now hit the ~ key (the key beside the 1 key on most non-English keyboards) to bring down the console window. We are going to be copy/pasting script commands into this and observing the results.
Does non-English mean outside of England, or does it include all English speaking countries? Because in America, it is beside the 1 key. Should it read most English, instead of most non-English?

Changed it just to say on most keyboards. If you don't speak english and you're reading the article, how would you know anyway? =P Frogger 20:08, 17 January 2007 (PST)
Resource Example
The “AI Guard Unit” resource has become outdated due to the "Improved AI Guard Unit" resource and should not be needed as a reference. In addition, this article is about AI scripting using the stock source code; and the “AI Guard Unit” resource has source code changes. --Twisted Jenius 05:19, 30 July 2009 (PDT)
Both links are added and appropriate the AI Guard and the Improved AI Guard. Doing a difference on the Improved AI Guard showed most of the code used was from the AI Guard resource, so they are valid. The Original AI Guard resource page also has a lot of history and information that can benefit people and should be referenced, as those discussions explain how the code can be used on stock engines and it can even be used on Stock T3D. This page will probably be completely revamped soon anyway. Randy Hearn
Because the two resources are relatively similar, is the exact reason why the original is no longer needed. As the name implies, the Improved AI Guard Unit takes all of the basic features of the original and improves upon them; fixing numerous bugs and adding in some new features. These fixes and features make it a better learning tool then the original.
I have been over the comments of the original resource quite thoroughly and, in my opinion, there is very little in them that would be of real use to anyone. Most of the comments are asking for help, either with the installation or with a bug; and most of those bugs have been fixed in the Improved AI Guard Unit resource, and the installation process has also been simplified. And no where in those comments does it discuss using the resource with just the stock source code. Admittedly it's fairly easy to change that resource to use the stock source, but the improved version already has those changes made, which still makes the original of little value.
As for the history and lineage of the various AI systems, that is not what this article is about. It is about what is currently best way to script AI. For now I will leave the link to the original to avoid this turning into an edit war; but I still have yet hear a convincing argument for why it should be included and will edit it out again if one is not given.
As far as a complete revamp goes: The information could likely be presented in a different format, but the actual script should still work. Between TGE 1.4.0 (and maybe before), TGEA and even the current version of T3D (Beta 4), there has been relatively little change to the stock AI source code or to Torque Script in general; meaning that even though the script here was made some time ago, in general it’s still valid today. But it could be presented in a better way, and could also be more complete (such as listing all valid console methods).--Twisted Jenius 01:59, 31 July 2009 (PDT)
I am now reverting back this article. Please discuss it farther before making any changes to the resource links. --Twisted Jenius 03:06, 8 August 2009 (PDT)
